A lot of people (including us) are advertising how you can save up to $1500 on your taxes this year when you purchase "qualifying" windows & doors. But how in god's name do you figure out what qualifies and what doesn't. Not every window qualifies and you have to have some idea about what u-factors, tempered glass, Low-E, and grille options are. Man ... it's confusing!
The good news - our window partner, Andersen Windows, has literally taken all the guess work out for you with their "Eco-Excel" program. Here are some details on the 09/10 Federal Energy Tax Credit
- Tax credit applies to "qualified energy efficient improvements" which include exterior windows, doors and skylights, for the taxpayer’s principal residence in the United States.**
- Tax credit is for the cost of the product only and does not include installation costs. Be sure to ask for a sales receipt that shows the cost of the product only.
- Tax credit is 30% of the amount paid for the product up to a maximum of $1,500 combined for 2009 and 2010 (including other eligible items listed in the IRS Notice).**
We'd wish you luck, but all you don't need it. What you need is a good contractor, the above website, and a qualified window provider, like Mid-Cape Home Centers. Happy Remodeling!
